holy trinity church

Dear Friends,
It has been an interesting week! Many years ago, I used to have a beadle who was very fond of saying ‘You can’t please everyone so you might as well please yourself!’ And he did! And the results were often quite catastrophic, and the arguments caused quite cataclysmic! But by the same token, you really can’t please everyone all the time, so in human terms there has to be some room for compromise on every side if we are to get along together. Of course we like things the way we like them, but that does not mean to say that any other way of doing things is wrong.
We are now entering the holiday season. I shall shortly be going away and shall be in a country where the predominating Christian denomination will be Lutheran. This means that I shall worship in the Lutheran church, and will no doubt pick up some ideas that may or may not be of use in our own church. Many of you will be travelling too, and will have opportunities to worship with other Christians of other denominations, either in our own country or abroad. So, can I encourage you to take the opportunities that are offered to share in worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ who do things differently. It is a very worthwhile experience.
The one thing we should all remember is that although we are all one in Christ we may not be all the same. In Holy Trinity in particular we often welcome visitors from all parts of the world. Indeed, this Sunday we are welcoming, a choir from the USA and no doubt others from other countries are worshipping with us. We are so glad to be able to welcome all our visitors and enjoy the opportunity to get to know them better. And as a congregation and as a Christian fellowship we like to think that we are always welcoming and inclusive, that we have much to share, and much to celebrate together as we worship our one creator God, made real for us in his son Jesus Christ and with us now through his Holy Spirit.
With love and blessings,
Marion
