Dear Friends,
A young woman was waiting for a bus in dangerous slum area of a big city one dark evening when a young policeman approached her. ‘Do you want me to wait with you?’ he asked. She thanked him but told him she was not necessary because she was not afraid. ‘Well then’ said the policemen grinning, ‘would you mind waiting with me?’
During the restrictive periods of the pandemic, it became very clear how much we all need each other. Especially for those living alone, the periods of lockdown and isolation affected the mental health of so many people, and some are still trying to recover their confidence and get back to a more normal sort of life.
But it is not just during difficult periods like the pandemic, that we need each other. During periods of illness and incapacity too, company and empathy make such a positive difference, and I am so grateful to those who have phoned and visited and helped during the past difficult fortnight Even the civil authorities are beginning to recognise that good company and being together is very important.
Many people commented on how good it was to be able to worship together after the pandemic and it is good to see that people are still appreciating the importance of this. We are so pleased to welcome old friends and new to our congregation each week and we trust that you will benefit from your time with us. In the opening sentence of our service today we hear Jesus say, ‘And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself’. We all belong to Christ, and it is good to come together in his company.
With love and blessings,
Marion
