Dear Friends,
Have you ever played Chinese Whispers? That is the game where someone whispers a message in your ear that you pass on. As the message is passed on from one to another it changes, so that by the time it reaches the end of the line it is something completely different. Or have you ever had to proof read what you have written on your computer, or, even more difficult, proof read an article or a book? It never ceases to amaze me how we tend to see what we want to see, hear what we want to hear, rather than what is actually there.
Chinese whispers is only a game and can be very amusing. But in real life it is important that we should read and listen carefully, for if we do not, we can get the wrong end of the stick and make terrible mistakes. And this can cause confusion and hurt and sometimes even worse.
As we read and listen to the words and actions of Jesus, it is important to remember that he was living and working and serving ordinary people just like us. This means that what he said and did was always straightforward and relevant to the situation. So, it is important that as we seek to serve him in our own communities, we follow his example, for it was he himself who said, “even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve”.
With love and blessings,
Marion
