Dear Friends,
Being forced to sit around for much of the time, rather than be out and about as I usually am, I have watched a lot more television than I usually do. So, it has been very good to be able to follow events at the Olympic Games this year. Whilst sport is not for everyone, I have been amazed at the sporting talents and the sheer determination of the athletes to succeed. And there have already been some very thrilling moments.
But something else has struck me about these particular games, and that has been the evidence of friendship and support between the athletes. Yes, they may all want to win, but they also want to work together, and are keen to support and encourage each other to do their best. The Olympic games were established in Ancient Greece three thousand years ago to honour the Greek God Zeus but fell out of favour after about seven hundred years. That is until they were revived in the nineteenth century with the purpose of cultivating understanding amongst the human race through sport and contributing to world peace.
It is so important to support and encourage each other in every aspect of life, and especially in our Christian witness. We can’t all be good at everything and so we all need each other to be doing our best, for it is as we do this that our lives will be fulfilled and our fellowship in Christ will be complete.
With love and blessings,
Marion
