Dear Friends,

An unknown writer once said ‘I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I do know who holds tomorrow’. What an interesting thought that is, especially at this time when people are anxious to plan holidays and events at home that have not been permitted for so many weeks. The number of appointments and celebrations that have had to be cancelled, and are still being cancelled because of lockdown must number many thousands. And the disappointment that these cancellations bring with them has been difficult for so many to bear. However, we have much for which to be grateful as well, not least, the fact that, very carefully, restrictions are beginning to be relaxed, and we can begin to look forward with greater confidence.

It is interesting that the period of lockdown, although it has had so many negative effects in all sorts of ways, has also had some very positive effects. Carbon emissions have been cut and the atmosphere, particularly in our cities, has been much cleaner. People too, have become more friendly whilst keeping their distance, and neighbours who had never spoken before have tried to help people they hardly know. Would it not be very good if we could nurture these positive effects of lockdown as part of the new normality?

We believe that God holds tomorrow and all our tomorrows in his hands. We believe that he loves us and wants the best for us. So let us continue to do our best for him, and for our communities, and pray that it will not be too long until we can put this period behind us and be together again.

With love and blessings
