holy trinity church

Dear Friends,

Today we welcome members and friends to our services of Harvest Thanksgiving. It is always difficult to predict when the harvest will be gathered in, and I was once told that we could not give thanks for it until it was! However, the yearly cycle of seedtime and planting and harvest is so important and it is right that we should set aside at least one Sunday a year to give special thanks to God for his provision for all our needs.

But of course, we should give thanks to God for his provision for all our needs, all the time. Next Sunday we shall be giving thanks in our congregation for new members by baptism and profession of faith, ordaining and admitting new elders to our kirk session and marking many years of faithful service of many of our elders. And so, we give thanks for all these things. Our guest preacher will be Rev Fiona Smith, Principal Clerk to the General Assembly, who returns to Holy Trinity, where she did part of her training, after an absence of twenty years. We shall also welcome visitors from other churches who know Fiona. There will be one service only, in Holy Trinity at 11:15am.

Our churches are known for the warmth of their welcome to old friends and new. It is really true that there are no strangers here, only friends that we haven’t met before, and we always give thanks for all who gather for worship and who are the church.

With love and blessings,

Marion
