Dear Friends,
You will have heard that Captain, now Colonel, Tom Moore is to be knighted. You will also have heard that he feels quite overwhelmed by the honour, and I guess that you will understand his feelings.
Tom Moore, aged 99, resolved to walk round and round his garden and seek sponsorship in order to make £1,000 for the NHS. For a 99 year old, that would have been quite a feat and a remarkable thing in itself. But his resolution caught the imagination of the nation and £1,000 became many millions. And Tom Moore became a national hero. Although it was a big thing for him, it was only a small thing in the great scheme of things. But it had enormous and unexpected results.
During this period of lockdown, we must all have become aware of people who are doing small things to help others that they would not have thought about in normal circumstances. And in so doing they have become local heroes, and have made a big difference in people’s lives. I guess most will not be officially recognized, but it is important that we continue to remember and give thanks for all the help and support we are receiving from our NHS, and from all our local heroes.
With love and blessings
Marion
