Dear Friends,
As we look at our world, we see much for which we should be grateful. But we also see much that causes worry and distress to so many people. The cost-of-living crisis is plunging so many people into debt and despair as the rich seem to get richer and the poor poorer. And as individuals there seems to be so little that we can do in a practical sense to help. But I would like to suggest that we can all pray for the alleviation of all suffering, however it is caused.
Next Sunday we shall celebrate Harvest Thanksgiving in both our churches. We have so much for which to be grateful, not least the immense hard work of farmers in getting the best out of the land, and fishermen who often risk their lives for the good of all people. And of course, we should always give thanks to God who provides for all our needs.
Next Sunday, gifts of flowers and plants will be distributed amongst the congregation. Fruit and vegetables will be given to the Care Homes and the Hub, and tins and dried foods will be given to the Food Bank. Even in difficult times we are so privileged to have all that we need, but there are so many, even in our own land, who struggle to put food on the table. So let us not only pray for then, but also do all that we can in practical terms to help them.
With love and blessings,
Marion
